Want to see what is happening where you are going? Maybe you want to include a destination in your plans, some stopover to coincide with events happening in that town?

Following are some events happening in Victoria. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some events happen at the same throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

Held annually showcasing the districts produce.

Melbourne Midsumma - Gay & Lesbian Festival
• January-February
Midsumma Festival, Melbourne’s annual gay and lesbian festival, is a federation of arts and cultural events spread over six municipalities and located in over 60 different venues across Melbourne. Midsumma is presented over three weeks and four weekends from mid January to February, and a significant attraction on the Melbourne festival calendar. Midsumma Festival brings together a diverse mix of artists and performers under a single umbrella for an impassioned celebration and innovative presentation of queer art and culture.

Mount Beauty World’s Longest Gum Leaf Exhibition
• Boxing Day to end of January
The 'search' is designed to provide fun and free entertainment for kids and adults during their visit to Mt Beauty over the summer holidays. It doesn't require any special skill other than the will to have a walk in the bush and a pair of eyes.

There are daily prizes fore the longest leaf of the day, as well as the overall prize. There is no limit tot he number of times you can enter (but you are limited to one entry per day). The daily winning leaf does not have to break any records - it just has to beat the others in the entry box. Contact the Alpine Discovery Centre for details of the next event.

Tatura International Dairy Week
• January
International Dairy Week (IDW) is the largest annual dairy cattle show and sale in the Southern Hemisphere and is amongst the top five shows in the world. It is indisputably the most prestigious event in the dairy industry, showcasing the best quality dairy cattle to over 6,000 visitors from every state in Australia and over 20 countries internationally. The event showcases the best from Australia's dairy breeds including Holstein, Jersey, Illawarra, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire and Guernsey.

Werribee Victoria State Rose Garden
• Werribee Park, K Rd, WERRIBEE VIC 3030
• November to April - open daily from 9 am to 5 pm
This internationally acclaimed garden is located in the magnificent Werribee Park. Displaying over 5,000 roses within four uniquely shaped designs, it won the World Federation of Rose Societies Award for Garden Excellence.

The garden is in bloom from October to May, with the roses being at their most magnificent from November to April.

Melbourne FORMULA 1TM Australian Grand Prix

An annual festival that celebrates a bygone era.

Bendigo Bendigo Easter Festival
• Held over the Easter period March/April
This is a festival for the people by the people. Featuring fireworks extravaganza, Chinese spring festival, gala parade and lots more.

Blackwood Blackwood Easter Market
• Annual event held on Easter Saturday (March/April)
This event attracts talented craft manufacturers. A popular even that includes the Blackwood Woodchop and Carnival.
Blackwood Blackwood Easter Carnival and Woodchop
• Annual event held on Easter Saturday (March/April)
Held in conjunction with the Easter Market, the carnival features the Midland Axeman, woodchoppers from all over Australia, art and craft stalls, and much more, making for a fun day out for the whole family.

Kyabram Annual KY Rodeo
• Annual event held in March
This annual event has been running for over 60 years. Now you can watch some of Australia’s toughest and best cowboys and cowgirls contesting in a host of rodeo events.
Kyabram Kyabram Engine Rally
• 3rd weekend March
Annual event displaying vintage engines, tractors and machinery, classic vintage cars, hobby displays, sheep shearing, wood craft and turning, historic display of farming and household memorabilia, and a host of other displays.

Melbourne L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Ltd
• March
Was established in 1997 as a combined initiative of the Australian fashion and retail industry, the State Government of Victoria and the City of Melbourne. The Festival launches collections of Australia’s leading fashion designers, labels and fashion retailers in a series of sophisticated and spectacular fashions shows. From Sunday to Sunday people flock to the catwalks, parties, exhibitions, business and fashion industry events, all over Melbourne.
Melbourne Melbourne International Comedy Festival
• March-April
Australia's most popular and dynamic annual arts festival featuring a high profile line up of cabaret, theatre, stand-up, live radio broadcasts, television, music, a Comedy Short Film Festival, free outdoor entertainment and visual art exhibitions.

In 2003 the Festival attracted an audience of over 383,000 and a Festival program listing an enormous 230 individual shows, staged over 2,800 performances making it one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world together with Montreal and Edinburgh.

Mildura Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival
• March
The Mildura and Wentworth Arts Festival was established in 1994 at the initiative of Stefano de Pieri. The Festival has become the focus of our region's awareness of the many art forms and artists we can be proud of as a community. The Festival attracts some of Australia's most prominent musicians, writers and performers to our region, generating recognition and creating sustainable value for Sunraysia. The Festival is held in March each year, with a very successful Writers Weekend component held in July each year. Local, national and international artists are invited to exhibit literature, music, visual arts and performing arts.

Myrtleford Tobacco Hops and Timber Festival
• Held on the Labour Day holiday weekend - Labour Day is the 2nd Monday in March
Started in 1960 in celebration of the local tobacco and hops harvest, and having added timber in the late 70s having recognised its importance to the regions economy, the festival continues as an annual event, establishing itself as a major regional event.

The SheppARTon Festival has become an iconic event in the Greater Shepparton area.

Apollo Bay Apollo Bay Music Festival
• April
Apollo, amongst other ancient duties, was also god of music and the arts. So Apollo Bay is the stage for one of Australia’s popular music festival. It is a yearly not-for-profit event, powered by the enthusiasm and dedication of their volunteers and sponsors. Check out their pictures from last years festival. Held around March.

Churchill Island Churchill Island Working Horse Festival
• Held in early April
This significant local festival celebrates and showcases the natural and cultural values of Churchill Island. It is a two-day festival that includes working horse and pioneering skill demonstrations, market stalls, musical entertainment and related exhibitors.

Corryong The Man from Snowy River Bush Festival
• April
The place where the cream of Australia’s stockmen, women and their horses gather annually. Whip cracking, horses shoeing, yarn spinning and the good old fashioned ‘cooo-ee’ were a part of life when Paterson met Riley. And at the dawn of a new millennium, these skills will be essential elements of The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival.

Merrigum Heritage Day Merrigum Historical Society Inc
• Annual event held over one weekend in April
This annual event celebrates the regions heritage with displays, exhibitions and demonstrations of pioneering skills, as well as access to the growing display of unique and very interesting heritage items covering everything from the everyday household goods, personal items, farming equipment and the unique stories of the men and women from this region.

Stawell The Stawell Easter Gift Festival

Held in Central Park Oval during April, there are three days of heats and finals of the world's leading professional footrace.

The Great Ocean Road Marathon is held in Apollo Bay, Victoria Australia.
