Want to see what is happening where you are going? Maybe you want to include a destination in your plans, some stopover to coincide with events happening in that town?

Following are some events happening in Victoria. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some events happen at the same throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

Melbourne Melbourne Film Festival

• Welcome to the Melbourne International Film Festival, an iconic event that hosts a feast of cinematic delicacies from over 50 countries over 19 days each winter. Your senses will be stimulated as we traverse the myriad of cinema cultures and their filmmakers.

Melbourne Melbourne Writers Festival
• August
• The Melbourne Writers’ Festival is, quite simply, Australia’s largest and highest profile literary event. Taking place in August each year, the festival’s aim is to showcase the art talent of the writer and to expand and enhance the experience of the reader.
Melbourne Royal Melbourne Wine Show
• August
• Taste, savour and critique Award winning entries from the Royal Melbourne Wine Show. Enjoy live jazz and Australian cheese platters or simply relax and enjoy a selection of the 4,600 + reds, whites, sparkling and ports.

Mildura The Mallee Machinery Field Days
• Held on the first Wednesday and Thursday of August
• The first Field Days was held in 1979 in a local paddock. 39 dealers exhibited their products with an emphasis on broad acre agricultural machinery and equipment. Today, it has become an major annual event on the agricultural calendar, where visitors seek out and evaluate the equipment on offer, along with the technical information to aid modern broadacre farming. There is also a section on crafts and interests. A great day and major fund raiser for the Speed Lions Club and other local organisations.
Mildura Mildura Masters Games
• Event held every two years in August
• A 9 day sporting event for male and female participants aged 30 years and over. There are some exceptions with ages being 25 years and over, and 35 years and over. Check their website for details.

Ararat Cymbidium Orchid Festival
• September
• Largest display of cymbidium orchids in Australia. This festival incorporates the Australian National Cymbidium Show.

• Uncover the Melbourne Fringe Festival with the quirky mix of art and culture including theatre, dance and visual arts. The Melbourne Fringe Festival exposes the most contemporary, innovative and trend-setting work by independent artists and brings them to the theatres, galleries, dark alleys and nooks and crannies of the city.
Melbourne Royal Melbourne Show

• A signature event in Melbourne since 1848, when it started as a ploughing competition in Moonee Ponds, the Royal Melbourne Show is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RAS). The Show is Victoria’s largest and longest running annual public entertainment event. It is iconic in its own right, attracting around half a million visitors each year, and has been a highlight of Victoria’s event calendar for over 150 years - the last 120 at the Ascot Vale site.

Mildura Mildura Country Music Festival
• Takes place during the September school holidays
• Be entertained by Australia’s biggest showcase of independent country music artists. Come and enjoy ten days of virtually non-stop country music. The Mildura Country Music Festival has built a culture of its own for those who have a deep love of the music. The wonderful part about Mildura in September is that not only is it country music heaven, it's also a great holiday destination.

Phillip Island Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix
• October
• With its combination of fast straights ญ over 300 km/h on Gardner, going into Doohan Corner at Turn One and sweeping corners, plus such technicalities as two first-gear right-handers, the Island circuit's four-and-a-half kilometres have a touch of everything. What the world's other tracks don't have, though, is the spectacular Bass Strait backdrop against which the world's best riders make an awesome sight as they soar over Southern Loop as they make their way up to Lukey Heights.

Melbourne Melbourne Cup Carnival
• 3-10 November
• People from all around Australia celebrate the spring carnival, with the race that stops a nation, the ‘Melbourne Cup’. Held at the Flemington race track in Melbourne and organised by the VRC the Melbourne Cup is definitely a horse racing bookies dream and part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, four separate unique days of racing, that include Victoria Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day.

Werribee Spring Harvest Picnic at Werribee Park
• November
• Spring Harvest Picnic at Werribee Park, food and wine producers from all over Victoria will gather in the magnificent grounds of Werribee Park to sample, showcase and sell their tasty products. Taste family made jams and preserves, artisan breads, decadent cupcakes, handcrafted local ales and much more.

This is a wonderful day for families and friends and features cooking demonstrations by well known chefs, live music all day and free children’s activities.
Werribee Victoria State Rose Garden

• November to April - open daily from 9 am to 5 pm
• This internationally acclaimed garden is located in the magnificent Werribee Park. Displaying over 5,000 roses within four uniquely shaped designs, it won the World Federation of Rose Societies Award for Garden Excellence.

The garden is in bloom from October to May, with the roses being at their most magnificent from November to April.

December Events - Victoria

Lorne The Falls Music and Arts Festival • The Falls Festival
• 30 Dec - 1 Jan - held over three days
• The Falls Festival is one of Australia's greatest music festivals with live music and entertainment, camping, markets, arts and film. It is held on a beautiful farm nestled in the Otway rainforest above Lorne and Victoria's Great Ocean Road. The main arena is formed from a spectacular natural amphitheatre that is big enough to hold the whole crowd. It has a perfect gentle slope so you can relax up the back and still hear and see everything. A dense rainforest surrounds the venue and helps to create this incredible aural arena.

The festival is held simultaneously in two stunning coastal locations, Lorne in Victoria and Marion Bay in Tasmania.

Mount Beauty World’s Longest Gum Leaf Exhibition
• Boxing Day to end of January
• The 'search' is designed to provide fun and free entertainment for kids and adults during their visit to Mt Beauty over the summer holidays. It doesn't require any special skill other than the will to have a walk in the bush and a pair of eyes.

There are daily prizes fore the longest leaf of the day, as well as the overall prize. There is no limit tot he number of times you can enter (but you are limited to one entry per day). The daily winning leaf does not have to break any records - it just has to beat the others in the entry box. Contact the Alpine Discovery Centre for details of the next event.

Werribee Victoria State Rose Garden
