Located just to the south-west of the Grampians National
Park, in the heart of the Western District and the Southern Grampians Shire, is
the rural city of Hamilton.
Once known as the Wool Capital of the World,
Hamilton prosperity arose out of the strong pastoral development, with wool
providing the economic growth and wealth that enabled the creation of many fine
buildings and homesteads, many of which can still be seen today. Even today,
sheep grazing and agriculture are still important in the region.
