Located at the foot of Mount Ida and the junction of two major highways, Heathcote is a small rural
township nestled amidst box ironbark forests. With its peaceful bush setting,
history dating back to the 1850s, and friendly locals, Heathcote is a great
place to make your base, to enjoy its local attractions and from which to visit
the surrounding region.
Heathcote is just 109 km north of
Melbourne, and 47 km
south-east of Bendigo. Many of the
old shopfronts and buildings are clustered around High Street (the Northern
Highway). This main street is lined by trees planted in the 19th century on the
advice of Baron von Mueller, who had made a significant contribution to the
Melbourne Royal Botanic Garden.
