Kyneton - Cities, Towns and Localities |
|
Famous for its spectacular bluestone architecture, mineral springs, the
meandering Campaspe River, botanic gardens and historic houses, Kyneton is
located on the Calder Highway about mid-way between
Melbourne and
Bendigo, in the Victorian
Macedon Ranges. The volcanic geology of the surrounding region meant that the
district produced an inexhaustible supply of bluestone, which was used to build
many of the town's structure. Five churches were build of the local
stone, some of which was quarried at the actual building sites. Many of the
bluestone
buildings can be seen today.
Another star attraction for Kyneton was the discovery of the mineral springs at the Boggy Creek
in 1890, which
revealed an abundance of quality mineral water.
