Whilst the
Goulburn River is Victoria’s longest river, the Murray River has a unique
hold in Australia's psyche. The Murray River System is the 7th biggest river
system on the planet and the longest river in Australia.
Covering more than 1 million square kms of land, the River Murray rises
below
Mount Kosciusko in New South Wales, and meanders it’s way across
the borders of Victoria to South Australia. In its travels, the river flows
through beautiful country areas, some lined with towering river red gums and spectacular ochre red cliffs.
Feeding endless agricultural land of orchards and vineyards, as well as
sustaining wetlands home to a myriad of wildlife. Large sections of this
Murray River Region are referred to as the Mallee, with more than 1.7 million acres
protected by conservation parks, famous for their flora and fauna.
With it’s paddle steamer history, today you can still do tours up and
down the river, following some historic routes on purpose built paddle
steamers. You can also stay at rented
Murray
River houseboats to explore the river at
your own pace. While cruising the river you can enjoy the fishing, water
skiing, bird watching, view some of the historic towns and sites or just
relax.Check out our range of

River accommodation. In addition to our listed online travel guide information,
