The Murray
River was born more than a hundred million years ago, is the 7th biggest
river system on the planet and the second longest river in Australia.
Covering more than 1 million square kms of land, the River Murray rises
below Mount Kosciusko in New South Wales, and meanders its way across
borders to South Australia. As the driest state, South Australia gets
more than half the water it uses from the River Murray. The river flows
through beautiful country areas, where it can be lined with river red
gums, with views of spectacular ochre red cliffs, wetlands filled with
wildlife and endless orchards and vineyards. Large sections of this
region are referred to as the Mallee, with more than 1.7 million acres
protected by conservation parks, famous for their flora and fauna.
