Warrnambool Post Office

The capital of the Shipwreck Coast is an ideal base in which to explore the regions attractions. Warrnambool which means "resting place between two rivers" has a wealth of maritime history and provides a fantastic seaside holiday destination.
 

Warrnambool is the largest city on the Great Ocean Rd, with beautiful beaches, manicured parks, visiting whales, notorious shipwrecks, art galleries and sporting activities, great cafes and restaurants, a large range of accommodations and entertainment venues to keep you busy all year round.

Major events include: Spirit of the Sea Summer Festival, Wunta Festival, Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic, May Racing Carnival and the Fun 4 Kids International Children’s Festival.

Warrnambool Attractions

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum
Focuses on shipping and shipwrecks. One of the items on display is the Warrnambool Minton Peacock. At a height of 1.57 m, from the birds’ crest to the base of the rocky outcrop on which it perches, it dates from 1876 and are beautifully coloured with the majolica glazes (a hallmark of the English Minton firm). Majolica is a translucent lead glaze that named after the brightly coloured ‘majolica tin-glazed wares of the Italian Renaissance’. The firm is believed to have only made 12, with only eight apparently surviving today, one of which is now in this museum. Another peacock is to be found in the Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo.
Southern Right Whale Nursery
Between June and September, female southern right whales return to Logan’s Beach to calve, often swimming 100 metres from the shore and can be viewed from the beach or platforms are available. Logan’s Beach Rd, off Hopkins Point Rd, Warrnambool.
Warrnambool Botanic Gardens

Designed by William Guilfoyle 1879, shortly after he completed the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. Designed in the classic style, these elegant sheltered gardens feature ancient trees and wide pathways.
