Following are some events happening in Western Australia. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some events happen at the same throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

Boyup Brook Boyup Brook Country Music Festival

The country music capital of Western Australia, the annual country music festival is held over one three-day weekend in February. During August the Boyup Brook Country Music Club host their Winter Star Search event.

Be Active Busselton Jetty Swim

Western Australia’s premier ocean swim around the recently refurbished Busselton Jetty, in the magnificent corner of our South West is on once again. The Be Active Busselton Jetty Swim 2013 event, will be held over 2 days, and includes family-friendly fun for all ages with plenty of activities and entertainment as well.

The course takes participants around the 3.6 km of Busselton’s iconic Jetty, in the tranquil waters of Geographe Bay.  Individual competitors and teams of two and four persons will take part in one of South West WA’s most famous sporting events. 

Be a part of the action and the atmosphere and enter the best jetty swim in the world.

Geographe Bay Geographe Bay Race Week

The waters of Geographe Bay come alive during this seven day event, where yachts from several different classes compete against each other. With boats housed at Port Geographe Marina, the race week has grown to become Western Australia’s biggest annual regatta event.

Broome Staircase to the Moon
• Occurs March through to October
A natural phenomenon caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats in Roebuck Bay at extremely low tide, creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching to the moon.

There is the Staircase Markets held at Town Beach on the nights of the ‘Staircase to the Moon’.

When a full moon occurs twice in the same month it is known as a ‘Blue Moon’.

Donnybrook Donnybrook Apple FestivalApple Harvest
• Festival is held during Easter / Harvest March to May
The apple harvest goes into full production when five central sheds and several private sheds are sorting, grading, packing and forwarding fruit to local and overseas markets. Visitors can visit the sheds by arrangement with management or the Donnybrook Tourist Information Centre.

Fremantle Fremantle Street Arts Festival
• March / April (Easter weekend)
Affectionately known as the ‘Freo Arts Festival’, this popular festival attracts over 100,000 visitors to the port city of Fremantle, to experience the supreme skill and outrageous behaviour of the world’s best buskers and street performances by artists from around the world.

Harvey Harvey Harvest Festival
• March
This annual festival in the South West region offers visitors the chance to experience the atmosphere of Italy. Set in the picturesque gardens of Snell Park, the festival provides a feast for the senses with arts, culture, food, wine, markets and music. A great time for the entire family.

Mandurah Mandurah Crab Fest
• March
This annual autumn event, usually held over a weekend in March, features a range of activities including a showcase of local seafood and wind produce, an opera program, youth festival, community displays, art projects, market stalls, street theatre and entertainment.

Nannup Nannup Music Festival
• WA Labour Day Long Weekend (March)
Once a year the town of Nannup comes alive with performers from across Australia and the world. Enjoy a variety of fold and world music, poetry, dance and street theatre throughout the village.

Balingup Balingup Small Farm Field Day
• April
One of Balingup's most popular events, it is a day that brings together small landholders and property owners, lifestyle farmers, and those with a dream of living that life. With the objective of promoting sustainability and shared knowledge, brought together in an enjoyable family day out. The Small Farm Field Day has many hundred of stalls ranging from a variety of crafts, animals, gourmet produce, local wines, plants, small machinery and other farm equipment. There are information and demonstration booths, practical live demonstrations, guided small farm tours and entertainment. Each year a theme is selected as the special focus, whilst a month prior to the event scarecrows appear all over the village, a symbol of the event.

Quit Forest RallyWest Australian Car Club
• April
The Quit Forest Rally is the Western Australia Round of the Australian Rally Championship. The event is organised and promoted by the West Australian Car Club. The rally is based in Busselton and Nannup. Visit the website or contact the local tourism centre for more information.

Capel Capel Fest
• April
A celebration of rural community life, celebrated with entertainment including live performances such as bands and street theatre, market stalls, log chopping competitions and much more.

Whale Migration
• June to November
June signals the beginning of the annual whale migration, as the humpback and southern right whales make their way from the Southern Ocean to the breeding grounds in the warm northern waters.

The whales then return south in November to grow and mature. Their route follow the continental shelf that hug the Australian coastline. For more whale information:
