Located in the Dardanup Shire, at the top of the Ferguson Valley
is Wellington Mill. This historic site was once a busy mill town. When the
first of two timber mills opened here in 1881, it was the beginning of an
expanding timber industry, which until that time had relied on sleeper cutting.
Today that history is documented on the local information board and illustrated
by markers for visitors. There are a number of other walks including the famous
Bibbulmun Track, where the Collie River and Mumballup section encompasses
Welllington Mill and Dam.
Of course, no visit to Wellington Mill is complete until you stop and marvel
at Gnomesville (perhaps a town community in its own right) with estimates of
over 3,000 gnomes and growing. There are picnic tables for those who want to
stay a while.
