Located 590 km east of Perth and 360 km north of
Esperance, Kalgoorlie-Boulder
is the mining and gold capital of Australia, famous for its gold rush past and
part of the
Goldfields-Esperance
region. During the wildflower season, it is a beautiful drive from Perth through
a countryside of purples, oranges, yellows, blues and reds. There are many
historic buildings and towns in the region, which chart the history of European
settlement in Australia. The climate in the area is usually quite dry and hot
in the summer, cooler in winter, with a little rainfall. There is an average of
63 rainy days for the year, with the days being usually clear and warm, with
cool nights. For up-to-date information visit the tourist information centre.
