Kojonup - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located just 160 km from Albany on the Albany Highway is Kojonup. Known as the ‘Farmstay Capital of Western Australia’, Kojonup is also the gateway to the southern region, providing the perfect stopover for those travelling on to the coast.

It was the nomadic Aborigines who were first attracted to the area by the freshwater spring and abundance of game, then the first European came to settle in 1837. The name ‘Kojonup’ has an historic significance, referring to the ‘Kodja’ or stone axe made by the Aborigines from the local stone of the area. To learn more about the Indigenous heritage and culture, take the time to visit ‘The Kodja Place’. There are a number of historic buildings, including the Military Barracks, one of the oldest surviving military buildings in Western Australia, overlooking the spring.
