Located 9 km north of the Tropic of Capricorn and some 1,186 km north east of
Perth, Newman is a mining town in the heart of the Hamersley Ranges part of the
Golden Outback tourist region. It services two huge mines at Mount Whaleback and
Orebody 29. Newman also provides access to some great 4WD outback drives in
spectacular scenic locations including the Rundall River National Park and the
Hammersley Ranges.
Climate
During summer (December to February)
Newman experiences extremely high day temperatures in the summer 45°C and very cold
nights. During January and April, the town receives much of its annual rainfall.
Winter (June to August), the average maximum temperature is 22°C with an average
minimum temperature of 4°C.
