Shannon National Park - Cities, Towns and Localities
Covering the entire basin of the Shannon River, from its headwaters to the Southern Ocean, Shannon National Park contains some of the most magnificent karri country in the southern forest of Western Australia. It is a park covering 53,500 hectares, that include old growth and regrowth karri forests, health lands and wetlands.

There is plenty to do, from camping, bushwalking, canoeing, fishing, picnicking and drives. There are information shelters that reveal the story of the Shannon, or listen on your radio to the park broadcasts at sign-posted stops around the Great Forest Trees Drive.

Great Forest Trees Drive
Established in 1996, this 48 km drive takes in spectacular old growth karri forest. Along the way there are a number of information stops with radio broadcasts (on special park radio circuit), picnic spots and walks. The drive starts north of the South Western Highway passing marri and jarrah forest, sedgeland, heath and granite outcrops. Signs point the route onto Upper Shannon Road. After following the on-way northern loop for 23 km, the Drive crosses the highway into the lower Shannon area, where the roads are once again two way. After visiting Snake Gully Lookout and the giant karri in Big Tree Grove, the drive returns along the river to the old Shannon townsite. The loop ends where it began on South Western Highway.

The Great Forest Trees Drive Guide and Map can be purchased online from NatureBase/Department of Conservation and Land Management Online.
