Just 25 minutes north east from Perths city centre is the Swan Valley, with
the reputation of being Perths Valley of Taste, and Western Australias
oldest wine region.
With Guildford the
historic gateway to the Swan Valley, there is no shortage of things to see and
do, from the numerous attractions such as wineries, breweries, distilleries, cafes and
restaurants, arts and craft, fresh local produce etc, plus its close proximity
to Perth, makes it a very popular destination not only for nearby local
residents but for visitors from around Australia and overseas.
A great way to experience the region is to follow the
award-winning Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail a scenic 32 kilometre loop that
takes in some of the best things on offer in the Swan Valley.
Welcome to Nyoongar Country
The Nyoongar Aboriginal people of the Wadjuk Tribe are the traditional owners of
the Swan Valley region, having inhabited the
region for at least 40,000 years. They have a strong connection with the land and
their Dreamtime story tell of the Wagyl, a Dreamtime serpent, who once travelled across the country,
carving out the valley and the Swan River. It is
said the Wagyl still lives deep within the Swan River waters to this very day.

Trek The Trail
September
The premier annual event for The Shire of Mundaring. First held in 2004, Trek has has grown from strength to
strength to become the eagerly anticipated event for walking and cycling groups,
individuals, couples and families from all over Perth and regional WA.
Each year Trek the Trail takes in different sections of the former Eastern
Railway that ran to York from Fremantle. Opened to Chidlow in 1884 and then to Wooroloo in
1885, the history and sheer scope of the engineering involved makes for an
intriguing walk.
Trek the Trail is a not for profit health and leisure event that allows
participants to walk or cycle a different section of the historic Railway
Reserves Heritage Trail each year. It is free and open to
all. The great thing about Trek is that it is non
competitive, which means you can take as long as you like to complete the route,
or just complete a section of it. Combining the elements of the natural
environment, health and fitness, arts and culture and history and heritage,
there is something for everyone to enjoy. Add to this, a community celebration
featuring entertainment, festivities and a marketplace of local producers and we
have a great day in store.
