There are war memorials located throughout Australia. Some are grand large places, whilst others are small dedications, but all are monuments to our fallen heroes. Many travellers include a visit to these sites as part of their holiday, so where possible we have provided information and links to them.

If you would like to add another location, please send us an email with the details about the site, including the address and where possible a photo (please indicate, if you want your name included with the photo).

Hobart War Memorial

Hobart’s Cenotaph
The Cenotaph
• Was built in 1925 to honour the citizens of Hobart killed in the First World War. Since then it has become a memorial to all the Australian men and women who have died on active service.

The stone steps are made of local bluestone, 175 million years old.

Hobart’s Cenotaph

A zinc casket containing the names of 522 Tasmanians who died in the Great War, was placed in the base of the Memorial on ANZAC Day 1925.
